

History of the Inn
During King Philip's War, forty homes were destroyed by Indians. The dwelling was later rebuilt and successfully defended in 1694. One of the 5 houses not burned was the Richardson Tavern, which was erected in 1678.
People who stayed at one of America’s Oldest Inns
Ulysses S. Grant, President Grover Cleveland, William Howard Taft (Taft was nominated for President while he spent a night at the Stagecoach Inn). Others include Andrew Carnegie, Paul Revere, Longfellow, Luther Burbanks. Even George Washington presided over the first inaugural meeting of the Masons at the Inn.
Today
Now the Inn is owned and operated by George Pergantis, also Master Chef of the Inn. Born in Greece in 1930, on the island of Andros, he worked as a furniture maker and then was 3rd Captain on a Greek ship. He married and became a citizen and has three sons. He has been renovating the Inn since 1977.
