The Hancock Tavern
668 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA

Always a consistent menu and excellent value for a very reasonable price. The menu is varied and fun, but I'd suggest the Italian Mix, Chicken parm, Shrimp parm and sweet sausage. No need to go to the North End, as you'll find value and quality (and quantity) in a local establishment in the Wollaston section of Quincy. Huge burgers, thin crust pizza, excellent soups and great hospitality.

Went basic with the roasted boneless chicken with roasted potatoes and veggies. Very straight forward but excellent. Went down well with a Grey Goose and Ginger. Ate at the bar. Bartender was very attentive, nice atmosphere. Stoughton needed a place like this. Well done folks.

Elizabeth's

We had a party of six with a reservation and were seated right away. Food was good (same menu as their sister restaurant next door (Margaret's) which is BYOB. Elizabeth's has a full bar. On the zingy side, we expected a more upscale ambiance and were surprised to find metal tables and chairs fit for a diner. Between open kitchen and bar all being in the same space -- noise level was very high. Margaret's is the better choice and better price.

Went there on a Saturday afternoon, with my daughter and grandchildren. Waited about 15 minutes before the waitress came over to ask us what beverages we would like. We got the kids corn on the cob, it came with tons of Black Pepper sprinkled on it, my 3 year old granddaughter started crying when she bit into it. Pepper on kids corn? We stopped at Wendy's on the way home & I got my chili (with beans) for 99 cents and it was delicious!

We were first seated at the back of the establishment - next to the bathrooms, we asked to be seated by the window - since both tables there were free (as were 4 others) in the room. We were moved to the window area. It then took over 10 minutes for the waitress to come over and ask for a drink or appetizer order - add another 10 before she came back to fill out dinner order. The appetizers were good (so I guess that's the silver lining). The french onion soup was delicious and filling, but the entrees were bland, (I had the shrimp scampi and my wife had the New England boiled dinner). We were clearly being rushed, but I have no clue why since there were still 4 or 5 tables free.

It is deceiving from outside. Inside is very cozy and fun! They have 5 plasma TV’s, a couple of pinball machines and a separate sports room with dart boards and card tables that doubles as a private party room. Food is great and very reasonably priced! They have a juke box with the latest technology (download songs from the internet) and they have acoustic bands on weekends.

We were seated quickly next to the fireplace in a spacious room. The waitress gave us ample time to review the menu and then order. The salad bar items were very fresh. My wife’s onion soup was, as she said 'the best I've had in quite a while.’ Chicken Cordon Bleu came quickly and it was more than adequate and tender. We chose the single, smaller portions after having the benefit of seeing other patron’s full size platters as they zipped by. A 9 ounce steak for me. Perfectly cooked to medium. Tender, juicy! The fire warmed us and the quiet atmosphere impressed us.

When we arrived and gave our name, we expected a wait, but were amazed when the friends of one of the waiters was seated right away past everyone that was waiting, we took that in stride and sat shortly thereafter. We ordered our food and waited for almost 50 minutes. We tried getting the attention of our waitress for drink refills, but she couldn’t be bothered. The final straw was that a couple seated next to us 30 minutes after we arrived got their appetizers we decided to leave. We called the next morning to speak to the owner or manager. He seemed indifferent on the phone.

The Raw Bar at Turners is a must-visit for fans of oysters and clams. Fresh littlenecks and cherrystones all year, and the three varieties of steamed mussels are pure heaven. You can't order from the regular menu, but there are a variety of appetizers (including an incredible shrimp scampi) and pasta dishes topped with seafood to choose from. Service is friendly but can be slow when the restaurant is busy. Prices are moderate, and the bar serves beer and wine only. A great place to relax after work and a real hidden gem in the suburban North.

The atmosphere at Bonta is very quiet and relaxing. They have a great little bar with some high top tables and the bartender makes a wicked good pomegranate martini. When making reservations ask to sit by the 2 sided fireplace. It's beautiful, warm and cozy. We had a window seat and that was great too. For starters we shared the beef carpaccio with some nice fresh warm bread. For dinner I had the Pan seared scallops with a side dish of spinach, and my husband had the veal with wild mushrooms in a creamy marsala sauce. No room for dessert but they did look very delicious. It was a great experience and I would definitely go back.

We both ordered the filet mignon thinking that we would be blown away by their steak considering that this is what they were known for. For $37, we each got a naked piece of steak on a plate that was OK. It was cooked properly and barely seasoned with a little bit of pepper and salt. We both had to order two sides to go with the steak; pea pods and potato stings. Each side was an additional $9. The sides were good, but to be forced to pay extra for a basic starch and vegetable which normally comes with an entry at other restaurants was a little ridiculous.

Scampo that was just opened by Lydia Shire was a wonderful experience. We started with a small pizza with ground lamb and feta cheese. It was followed by a brick roasted chicken that for chicken was a great experience, moist a good flavor. They also serve 4 or 5 different types of bread creations with a modest charge. The 4th week, I called in the order to pick up, as I always do. When I entered the shop, after being ignored for 5 minutes, the lady working finally acknowledged I was there and I told her I was there to pick up my order. She told me I didn't call it in. I told her I did call it in, I know I spoke to someone, even telling the person what time I would be picking it up and was told it would be ready for me. No apology, no even asking me if I still wanted them to make me the sub. She went back to what she was doing as if I didn't exist. I was treated like I did something wrong.

Mine arrived first; his never did until we finally asked where it was. No sorry for an unnecessary delay. My sandwich had been very lightly pressed, not toasted, not even warm. The cheese was stone cold. When we leaving, we explained how to improve the sandwich by actually pressing it to toast the bread and melt the cheese - comment was not welcomed nor did they seem to care that the food and service was poor.
